How to Make Potato Fries (Crispy and Delicious)

Potato fries are a classic snack that’s easy to make and loved by many. Whether you prefer them crispy or soft, here’s a simple guide on how to make homemade potato fries that are golden, crispy, and full of flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 medium potatoes (Russet potatoes work best)
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional seasonings: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried herbs (like rosemary or thyme)

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Potatoes:

    • Wash and peel the potatoes (optional, you can leave the skin on for extra texture).
    • Cut the potatoes into evenly-sized sticks (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick). Try to keep the size consistent to ensure even cooking.
  2. Soak the Potatoes:

    • Place the cut potato fries in a bowl of cold water and soak them for about 30 minutes. This step helps remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.
    • After soaking, drain and pat the fries dry with a clean towel or paper towels.
  3. Preheat the Oven (or Fryer):

    • For Baking: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • For Frying: If using a deep fryer or a pan, heat the oil to about 350°F (175°C).
  4. Coat the Potatoes:

    • In a large bowl, toss the potato fries with olive oil, salt, pepper, and any other seasonings you like (paprika, garlic powder, etc.).
    • Make sure all the fries are evenly coated.
  5. Bake or Fry:

    • For Baking: Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
    • For Frying: If frying in a pan, fry the potatoes in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 3-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove the fries with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve:

    • Once your fries are done, sprinkle a little more salt if desired and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce (ketchup, mayo, or any dip of your choice).

Tips:

  • For extra crispiness, you can double fry the potatoes: fry them once at a lower temperature (around 325°F) to cook them through, then fry again at 375°F to make them crispy.
  • Experiment with different seasonings like Cajun spice, chili powder, or parmesan cheese for added flavor.

Enjoy your homemade crispy potato fries!
